ACCEPTANCE SPEECH & INAUGURAL ADDRESS

On his investiture as the 3rd President of SOS ’05 Alumni, Ile Ife, Osun state Nigeria on Friday, May 3, 2024 .  

1.PREAMBLE 

Let me start this Acceptance speech by expressing my profound appreciation to the Almighty God for making this day possible. I am greatly honoured to have the opportunity to serve SOS ’05 Ife Alumni for the next two (2) years. I and the team expect you to lead us to how we will serve you better  

  • ACCEPTANCE 
    • It is therefore with humility, great sense of responsibility and a determination to selflessly serve, that I, Pelumi Saheed Adeyeye, graciously accept my election as the 3rd President of SOS ’05 Ife Alumni.
    • Given the values cherished by the Association, the SOS ’05 Ife Alumni and the enviable antecedents of our pioneer executives, I promise to hold this position in good faith with integrity, professionalism, and be guided by the constitution of the association. I will not betray this invaluable trust, no matter the price, Insha Allah.  
    • I also want to commend different personalities who took out time to ensure we have a unified platform today who started the alumni meetings in OAU with several meetings and Get-together before they swivel reunion from it and to the Pioneer president of the alumni 

Abayomi Solomon and his co- executives for their bravery to start the course. The outgoing President in person of Elufisan Samuel thanks for all you do and taking the mantle of leadership when the association needed it

  • I wish to dedicate this lifetime achievement to my dear wife Mrs Yetunde Tawakalit Adeyeye who told me this position is aligned with my life goals.
  • TRIBUTE 

As we savour the joy of this accomplishment and fulfillment of being the President, I would like to specially recognize and acknowledge some of the legion of great and sound minds of our dear SOS ’05 Ife Alumni who will lost while swaying through the tides of life; Adeola Akinola, Lawal Omotola, Alao Aliu, Adekanmi Hammed, Folashade Adekunle and others I am unaware of. You are all worthy of celebration and I hope you are resting in peace.

  • CLARION CALL TO SERVICE 
    • Although many won’t acknowledge the glamour and prestige associated with the high office of the SOS ’05 Alumni President, let me state that this investiture is a clarion call to service and so, the enormity of its responsibility is not lost on me. However, I am persuaded that with the support of over 300+ members we will be able to deliver on our promise. In essence we are seeking to the satisfaction of stakeholders’ expectations which you will observe as we go on. Specifically, we have summarized our focus to address the under listed issues in line with the mandate of the Association
  • WAY FORWARD FOR THE ASSOCIATION 
    • Welfarism

The role of welfare committee cannot be overemphasized. This is a fuel to an association and we will continue where the last administration of the alumni stop. This will not only be for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria but for our brothers and sisters in diaspora. “Benjamin Disraeli says power has only one duty – to secure the social welfare of the people”

  • Unity

We will continue to foster peace and unity amongst ourselves. We will have constitution, by laws, rules and guidelines to guide us to ensure conflict is avoided.  

  • Business Plan Support

We will seek for fund internally and externally where it is possible to help our dear team member. We are also looking into collaboration I pray it comes into fruition so that members can benefit  

  • Recognition

Certificate of service will be given to the past administration and several committee who have diligently carry out their responsibilities without taking credit  

  • Award

This will be given to outstanding excos, individual or committee member in the last dispensation and who be voted by members of the alumni

  • Constitution Review 

The constitution review is imperative to bring in more ideas raised in the last meeting  

  • Stewardship Report

There is a say that what we don’t track we don’t achieve. This will be done monthly in a general monthly meetings. This will also serve as avenue to suggest and question the executives and various committee call to serve

  • WAY FORWARD FOR OUR ALMA MATER
    • Students

This administration we set up committee to also see what we can do for the students to improve their learning or result of standing out amongst their peers. Please don’t be tired of us we will come for support as usual.

  • School

We will look into all projects highlighted previously and which one can be executed. If we need support we will run to you as usual.

  • APPRECIATION 

Distinguished alumni, we are aware that life is a journey and during this journey there are individuals who have contributed immensely to the greater course of this association I pray that may God continue to enrich you with all good things of life. I celebrate you. Permit me to also specially express my gratitude to my Revered Past Presidents (Abayomi Solomon and Elufisan Samuel) for their contributions to the success story of today. Under their guidance, I learnt a great deal under their Leadership. May God continue to bless their endeavors’

  • CONCLUSION 

I earnestly solicit the support, cooperation and understanding of members of this noble association in this difficult but achievable task. I am persuaded that as a team, we can overcome all odds and build a profession whose fountain of service will remain persuasive and value laden.  It is my utmost desires that at the end of this presidential year, I will pass on to my successor a banner without stain. As I conclude, I must say as an association, we understand the current situation of the country however , we need everyone contribution if we are going to succeed which can either be by paying our respective monthly dues or by supporting if there’s a need to raise fund. This will go along way for the alumni body. May God help us all (Amen). (Forward ever, Backward never)
